Training: Merwin trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and the Liverpool Playhouse.
Theatre/film credits: Merwin has appeared on Broadway in Ain’t Broadway Grand, Grand Hotel, Me & My Girl, Slab Boys, The 1940s Radio Hour, Dirty Linen, Rex, The Visit, Chemin de Fer, Trelawny of the Wells, Minnie’s Boys, and Leda Had a Little Swan, and off-Broadway in After-Play. He has appeared in the New York productions of Beau Jest, La Boheme, Yours, Anne, Chinchilla, Big Apple Messenger, The Naked Hamlet, Rubbers & Yanks, Wanted (Variety critic poll nominee), and The Greshwin Celebration at BAM. He has had film roles in Quiz Show, It Could Happen to You, Cadillac Man, Lily in Love, Lovesick, So Fine, Making Mr. Right, Broadwalk, Trading Places, Shamus and Hercules in New York. He starred in the ABC series The Goodbye Girls, as well as the Kennedy miniseries, Love, Sidney, Sessions, Law & Order, The Equalizer, and most New York-based soap operas.
Merwin is married to esteemed fashion consultant Barbara Parry.
