The Producers of Bombay Dreams (Waxman Williams Entertainment and TGA Entertainment) proudly announce that American Idol Superstar Tamyra Gray will be making her Broadway debut beginning Tuesday 9th November, 2004. In the hit musical, Ms. Gray will be performing the lead role of Priya for a limited engagement of 12 weeks only.
Tamyra Gray, the captivating performer with the killer voice who wowed audience nationwide, was one of the 10 finalists on the first season of Fox’s American Idol, introducing her to tens of millions of people who watched, voted and cheered for the Gaithersburg, MD native.
“I have been an admirer of Tamyra Gray from the start and am thrilled she’s joined the Broadway Company of Bombay Dreams. She’s going to be wonderful”, said A.R. Rahman, composer of the musical.
On American Idol, Ms. Gray’s performances of songs like “Touch Me in the Morning”, “Minnie the Moocher,” “A House Is Not a Home,” and “If I Were Your Woman” made her an early favorite with the judges and audience alike, and despite her untimely departure from the show, she was signed by American Idol creator Simon Fuller to a management contract soon after she left. After the nationwide American Idol Tour, the 27-year-old began working on songs for her debut album and also appeared in a number of television shows, including Boston Public and Tru Calling. In summer 2004, Ms. Gray’s debut album, “The Dreamer”, an eclectic collection of songs co-written by Gray, was released by 19 Records.
In Bombay Dreams, Ms. Gray will be playing the role of Priya, the beautiful film director who is torn between the love of her fiancée and her attraction to the slum-boy-leading-man Akaash.
