Cats’ Alyse Davie performs ‘Moonlight’ in Filipino
Fantastic video footage from the Manila production of Cats.

Cats continues its run in Manila, starring Lea Salonga as Grizabella until 24th August and in this clip from the production, the first few lines of ‘Moonlight’ (sung to the tune of Memory) are sung in Filipino.

The multi award-winning poet Pete Lacaba translated the opening verse into Filipino, which goes as follows:

“Liwanag, hanapin ang liwanag
Ang iyong ala-ala ang gabay na sundin
Sa liwanag,, ligaya ay matatagpuan
Bagong buhay ay darating”

In this clip Australian cast member Alyse Davies, who plays Sillabub in the show, sings Lacaba’s Filipino rendering of the opening verse of ‘Memory’ in Act II of the show.
