Bill Kenwright is pleased to announce casting for the upcoming leg of the Autumn 2004 National Tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Returning to one of his most acclaimed roles for just six weeks is Darren Day! With a biography encompassing presenting, stints on television and in film, a pop career, and a fantastic history in musical theatre, Darren Day is a household name with audiences throughout Britain.

Darren Day’s first big break came in 1993 in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He took over the title role for three weeks at the London Palladium during Philip Schofield’s absence receiving sensational reviews and a 10 minute standing ovation. This was followed by appearances in leading roles in Godspell, Great Expectations, Copacabana, Grease, Summer Holiday, Carousel and The New Rocky Horror Show and a few sensational returns to his most famous role of Joseph.

Darren has acted as host for BBC TV’s Children’s Royal Variety Show in the presence of HRH Princess Margaret at the London Palladium. On television, he has hosted two series of Just Kidding on Sky l, plus two series of ITV’s prime-time, top-rated Saturday night show, You Bet and the first series of a LWT’s Saturday night show, Don’t Try This At Home in May 1998. In 1996 Darren was awarded the prestigious Sir James Carreras Award for Outstanding New Talent of 1995, by the Variety Club of Great Britain.

That same year Darren entered the top 20 with a single on RCA Records featuring “Summer Holiday”, “Bachelor Boy” and a “Summer Holiday Medley”. This culminated in a live performance on Top of the Pops accompanied by Bruce Welch and Brian Bennett of The Shadows. He also starred in a six month run of the musical Summer Holiday at the Blackpool Opera House after which a “Summer Holiday” album was released on RCA Records, along with a “Summer Holiday” video from VCI. Darren’s solo album was released on 6th April 1998. Darren has also acted on television and in film, with the BBC’s Doctors, alongside Stefanie Powers, and in the film Hellbreeder which Premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

In 2003 Darren joined the West End cast of Bill Kenwright’s hugely successful production of Joseph, and is now thrilled to be returning to the road in a role which has provided him with such acclaim.

Retelling the Biblical story of Joseph his 11 brothers and the coat of many colours, this magical musical is full of unforgettable songs including “Any Dream Will Do”, “Close Ev’ry Door To Me” and “One More Angel”. Following sensational reviews, Bill Kenwright’s “Amazing”, “Superb”, “Wonderful” and “Brilliant” production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s sparkling family musical continues to enjoy huge success in the West End with standing ovations at every performance at the New London Theatre!
