The Estonian Theatre Statistics 2010 report – compiled by the Estonian Theatre Agency and covering 29 venues across the country – this week revealed that Estonia’s most visited theatre production in 2010 was Evita, with a total of 22,313 visitors.

Evita premiered on the November 27th 2009 in Tallinn, at the Nokia Concerthall, before moving to the Vanemuine Grand Building on January 23rd 2010. The Vanemuine production of Evita was directed by Georg Malvius (Sweden), musical director and conductor Tarmo Leinatamm, designer Ellen Cairns (Scotland), lighting designer Palle Palmé (Sweden) and choreographer Igor Barberic (Croatia). The role of Eva Peron was played by Maarja-Liis Ilus.

“We are glad to see that the hit musical Evita has conquered the hearts of Estonians twice – first with the 2002 Vanemuine production and now again in 2010,” said the general manager of the theatre, Paavo Nõgene.

Altogether four Vanemuine productions managed to settle in the TOP 6 of the most visited productions. Furthermore, Vanemuine was the most visited theatre in Estonia in 2010 – the annual number of visitors was 168,821 and including the theatre’s program of concerts and events addressed to children and young people, the total number of visitors reached 187,361.
