View images of Loughrea Youth Theatre’s production of The Likes of Us.

Earlier this year, the students of Galway’s Loughrea Youth Theatre performed The Likes of Us, following the exclusive release of the show to the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) in June 2008 which gave amateur groups the chance to stage their own productions before the show’s professional release.

The Likes of Us was the first collaboration between Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Written in 1965, it tells the story of Dr Thomas Barnardo, who rescued homeless children from the streets of Victorian London and provided them with shelter.  The subsequent Barnado’s Homes became famous all over the world.

Pictures show Brian Raftery as Barnado and Máirín Hays as Syrie. All images c. Paula Short.
