Simon Callow as Count Fosco, The Woman in White

Simon Callow is to make his debut as a West End musical star playing the flamboyant Count Fosco in the hit musical The Woman in White at the Palace Theatre, during the week commencing 29th August.

As one of Britain’s best-loved actors on stage and screen, Simon Callow has already enjoyed huge success playing Count Fosco in the 1997 BBC television production (which also starred Tara Fitzgerald, Justine Waddell, Andrew Lincoln and Ian Richardson).

Following the pre-production period for the Broadway transfer of The Woman in White, Trevor Nunn and Andrew Lloyd Webber initiated creative changes during rehearsals for the new West End cast. There will be a press night on Monday 19th September.

The new West End cast includes Ruthie Henshall starring as Marian, with Damian Humbley and Alexandra Silber playing Walter Hartright and Laura Fairlie. Elinor Collett plays Anne Catherick (aka ‘the Woman in White’), Michael Cormick plays Sir Percival Glyde, with Edward Petherbridge as ‘Mr Fairlie’.

The American production of The Woman in White opens on Broadway on 17th November at the Marquis Theatre.  This will be the first of London’s current major new musicals to open in New York. Final casting sessions are currently taking place in New York with Trevor Nunn. The Broadway Production of The Woman in White is produced by Boyett Ostar Productions (also producers of the smash hit Broadway musical Spamalot), The Nederlander Organisation, Sonia Friedman Productions and The Really Useful Theatre Company.
