The London productions of both The Wizard of Oz and The Phantom of the Opera – which this week celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a series of performances at The Royal Albert Hall – are this week nominated in the 2011 BroadwayWorld.com UK Awards.
The annual BroadwayWorld UK Awards gives theatregoers the chance to nominate and then vote for their favourite West End productions and performers and – after nominations opened in September – both Phantom and The Wizard of Oz now need your votes…
The London production of The Phantom of the Opera is up for Best Long Running West End Show and Understudy of the Year for Scott Davies, whilst our 25th Anniversary celebration is in the running for the Theatrical Event of the Year.
Meanwhile, The Wizard of Oz has an incredible 11 nominations including Best Musical. Our nominations in full are:
Best Direction of a Musical – Jeremy Sams
Best Leading Actress in a Musical – Danielle Hope
Best Featured Actor in a Musical – Michael Crawford
Best Featured Actor in a Musical – Paul Keating
Best Featured Actress in a Musical – Hannah Waddingham
Best Featured Actress in a Musical – Emily Tierney
Best Choreography – Arlene Phillips
Best Costume Design – Rob Jones
Best Orchestrations – David Cullen
Best Scenic Design – Rob Jones
Additionally, both The London Palladium (home to The Wizard of Oz) and Her Majesty’s Theatre (where Phantom has been playing in London’s West End since 1986) are nominated in the Theatrical Venue of the Year category.
