Wizard of Oz wins at Whatsonstage Awards
Bill Kenwright and Hannah Waddingham at the Whatsonstage.com 2012 Awards

On Sunday 19th February, The Wizard of Oz – currently playing at the London Palladium – won two awards at the Whatsonstage.com 2012 Awards in London’s West End.

The show won Best Musical Revival at the Whatsonstage.com Awards, held at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London, while former cast member Hannah Waddingham won in the Best Supporting Actress in a Musical category. Hannah then performed the Wicked Witch’s rousing number, ‘Red Shoes Blues’ at the ceremony – a new song written for this production of The Wizard of Oz by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Producer Bill Kenwright was also on hand at the ceremony, picking up the Best Musical Revival award, which he dedicated to the show’s West End home – the world-famous London Palladium.

The Whatsonstage.com Awards are the only major prize-giving event for the theatre industry in the UK voted for purely by the ticket-buying public. This year a record 70,000 people took part in the voting process.
