John Barrowman
Alex Dillingham
John has played the lead role of Cal Chandler in a new musical The
Fix, written by John Dempsey and Donna P. Rowe, directed by Sam Mendes
and co-produced by Cameron Mackintosh, at the Donmar Warehouse. The
cast album has been recorded and will be released shortly. He currently
presents 5's Company, the daily afternoon magazine programme on Channel
5. Born in Glasgow where he spent his early childhood, at the age of 8
John moved with his family to the United States and later studied
Musical Theatre at the United States International University in San
Diego, California. On returning to the UK John immediately landed the
starring role opposite Elaine Paige in Anything Goes at the Prince
Edward Theatre. He then played Chris in Miss Saigon followed by the
title role in the musical Matador opposite Stephanie Powers at the
Queen's Theatre, then Raoul in Phantom Of The Opera at Her Majesty's
Theatre. He starred as Claude in the 25th anniversary London revival of
Hair at the Old Vic Theatre before resuming the role of Chris in Miss
Saigon at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. John starred as Joe Gillis in
Andrew Lloyd Webber's London production of Sunset Boulevard at the
Adelphi Theatre, London. He also made his Broadway debut as Joe Gillis
in Sunset Boulevard opposite Betty Buckley, his co-star from the London
production. John played the leading role of Peter Fairchild in the CBS
Network TV series Central Park West for writer/producer Darren Starr.
He previously played Brandon in the Patrick Hamilton suspense play Rope
at the Minerva Theatre at the Chichester Festival. Recordings include
the cast album of Hair for EMI, all star cast albums of Godspell and
The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber for TER Records, selections from
Matador for Sony, a concept album for a new musical Red Red Rose, the
Danny Zuko role on a new album of Grease for TER and John Barrowman:
Aspects of Lloyd Webber, a special 6-track CD on the jay label. As well
as giving regular live concert performances, John has broadcast in
concert for the BBC in The Magic Of Musicals from the Glasgow Royal
Concert Hall (with Claire Moore), for National Music Day (with Betty
Buckley) and a concert version of Call Me Madam (with Tyne Daly). He
performed the lead role in Red Red Rose at The International Musical of
the Year in Denmark, also released on CD and video. John was a regular
presenter of Live and Kicking (BBC TV) on which he presented his
Electric Circus. John hosted two series and two Christmas Specials of
The Movie Game, also for BBC Television.
