Steven Pimlott read English at Cambridge.

 

Theatre : Hamlet, Richard II, Antony and Cleopatra (Royal Shakespeare Company); Dr Dolittle (Labatt’s Apollo Hammersmith); world première of Bad Weather (RSC at the Other Place); Vieux Carre (Nottingham Playhouse); Twelfth Night, The Winter’s Tale and, with Claire Venables, the British première of The Park by Botho Strauss (Crucible Theatre, Sheffield); world premières of Never Land and The Strip both by Phyllis Nagy (Royal Court); British première of Carmen Jones; a revival of Carousel (Royal Exchange, Manchester); Butterfly Kiss by Phyllis Nagy (Almeida); Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (London Palladium and worldwide); Molière's The Miser, Sondheim's Sunday In the Park with George (Royal National Theatre); Richard III, Julius Caesar, Murder In the Cathedral, Measure For Measure, Michael Hastings’ Unfinished Business (RSC); Camino Real (RSC and Young Vic).

 

Opera : Directed more than thirty productions of opera in the UK, Germany, Austria, Australia and Israel including The Coronation of Poppea (English National Opera); La Bohème (English National Opera); arena production of Carmen (London, Dortmund, Tokyo, Melbourne, Sydney, Zurich, Munich and Berlin); Un Ballo In Maschera (Flanders Opera); Samson et Dalila (Bregenz Festival); Verdi’s Macbeth (Hamburg Opera).

 

Film : Co-directed the video film of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

 

Steven Pimlott was the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Company Director for the 1996 Stratford Season, during which time he directed As You Like It and Molière’s The Learned Ladies. Since October 1996 Steven Pimlott has been an Associate of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
