Elaine Paige
GRIZABELLA
Elaine Paige, a Londoner, trained at the Ada Foster Stage School and while still a student made her first professional appearance in the Anthony Newley/Leslie Bricusse musical The Roar of the Greasepaint. Her first West End appearance was in the highly successful musical Hair. Her other West End performances include Rock Carmen (Michele) at the Round House, Grease (Sandy), and Jesus Christ Superstar. She scored a personal success playing the part of Rita opposite Michael Crawford in Billy at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. She has also worked at the Theatre Royal Stratford East with Joan Littlewood’s Actor’s Workshop and was in Follow The Star at Chichester. Elaine’s greatest triumph to date was her performance as Eva Peron in Evita. She won the Society of West End Theatre Award for performance of the year in a musical, and the Variety Club’s personality of the Year Award jointly with David Essex for her starring role. Recent television includes Phyllis Dixey, The Ladykillers and The Way to Do It. Prior to her appearance in Cats, Elaine has been concentrating on the recording of her new album.
