David Hersey

Lighting Designer

In the twelve years since he came to London from New York David Hersey has become recognised as one of London’s leading Lighting Designers.
Busy in European capitals and as far away as Shiraz and Tokyo he has designed the lighting for over one hundred productions for most of England’s major theatres, opera and ballet companies.
His work is currently represented by Evita in London, Australia, Vienna, Madrid and in the United States where he won the Tony Award for the best Lighting Design in 1980.
Recently at the National Theatre productions include Othello, The Wild Duck, Richard III, The Double Dealer, Brand and The Cherry Orchard; for English National Opera The Turn of the Screw, The Marriage of Figaro and The Seven Deadly Sins; at the Royal Opera House Maylering, Tristan and Isolde, Peter Grimes and Parsifal; for the RSC The Greeks and Nicholas Nickleby. Other productions include The King and I.
Six years ago David Hersey founded David Hersey Associates Ltd, a company which designs and manufactures specialised lighting and projection equipment and effects.
David Hersey is Lighting Consultant to the National Theatre.
