Siobhan McCarthy was born in Dublin and attended the St Louis National School where she became a member of ‘The Young Dublin Singers’. She was a pupil of the Brendan Smith Academy of acting and voice training under the direction of Winifred O’Dea. In 1966 a BBC team came to film a series for Jackanory and chose Siobhan to play the young child. As a member of The Young Dublin Singers, she performed for six years on Jury’s Irish Cabaret (hotel entertainment for tourists) and travelled to the United States with this group for two successive years. While in secondary school she played the male lead in Salad Days and Tuptim in The King and I. Later she joined the past pupils Musical Society and played in Wild Violets, Fiddler On the Roof and Half a Sixpence. Another Dublin based group known as Take 4 asked her to join them in their productions of Promises, Promises and Company.
