Anthony Van Laast

 

Choreographer

 

Anthony van Laast trained at the London School of Contemporary Dance, later joining the Company as both performer and choreographer. Anthony is currently Artistic Director of the Dance Company Souls In Motion.

 

In the West End his credits as choreographer include Andrew Lloyd Webber's Song & Dance and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (also UK tour, Canada, Australia and the USA); Tim Rice's Blondel; Peter Pan - The Musical; Annie Get Your Gun; A Little Night Music; Hair (Old Vic); The Pirates of Penzance and the Olivier Award-winning productions of Sondheim's Into the Woods and Bernstein's Candide. For the English National Opera Anthony has choreographed Jonathan Miller's production of The Mikado and Tippett's A Midsummer Marriage. Anthony's work for the Royal Shakespeare Company includes:The Maid's Tragedy; Peer Gynt; The Merry Wives of Windsor; Camille; Romeo and Juliet; A Midsummer Night's

Dream and The Beggar's Opera.

 

Film credits as choreographer include Nutcracker; Outlands; Who Dares Wins and the James Bond film Never Say Never Again (in which he also acted) and John Boorman's Excalibur and Hope and Glory. Anthony's television credits include the BAFTA Award-winning The Hot Shoe Show and Bluebell. He has choreographed and staged many variety shows for television including seven Royal Variety Performances for the BBC.

Anthony choreographed The Siegfried and Roy Show in Las Vegas and has also staged shows and tours for Kate Bush, Elaine Paige, Wayne Sleep, Kid Creole and the Coconuts and Cleo Laine. As Director and Choreographer, Anthony's credits include Song & Dance which won the Australian Awards for Best Musical and Best Choreography, the US tour of My Fair Lady and Tim Rice's revised version of Chess.
