Darren Day was born in Colchester in July 1968. He schooled at Charles Lucas Comprehensive where he excelled in Athletics, Music, Drama and Snooker! His interest in Snooker led him to turn semi-professional after leaving school. He played exhibition matches with, amongst others, Steve Davis and Jimmy White and it was while playing Snooker that he started impersonating the various players.
In 1988 he took part in Opportunity Knocks, ITV’s talent show where he won his heat and came third in the overall competition. He caused a considerable stir and set off on the pantomime and cabaret circuit for the next three years. He has worked with many famous names including David Essex, Freddie Starr and Joe Longthorne and has starred in pantomime in Maidstone and Camberley. Darren was seen in pantomime by two BBC Executive Producers and, as a result, in June 1990 he presented his first television show for the BBC Children’s department called Clockwise. After the thirteen programmes he was asked to present a second series for BBC’s prestigious Saturday morning magazine programme Going Live.
Darren’s talent was highlighted at The Children’s Royal Variety Show at the Dominion Theatre in London in April 1991 with an excellent seven minute performance in front of HRH The Princess Margaret. Darren has toured nationwide with Max Boyce and starred as Robinson Crusoe at the Watersmeet Theatre in Rickmansworth at Christmas 1991 and as Buttons in Cinderella at the Theatre Royal, Leamington Spa at Christmas 1992.
Darren was heard on BBC Radio 5 with his own show entitled Stage 5, a national talent show broadcast live from comprehensive schools across the country.
Darren recently presented a new Saturday morning ITV show called Teen Win, Lose or Draw which started in January 1993 and ran for ten weeks.
