Michael Reed
Production Musical Supervisor
Michael Reed leads a varied musical life, alternating between the worlds of classical music and the musical theatre. He has conducted numerous West End shows including: On The Twentieth Century; Barnum; Singin' in the Rain; The Phantom of the Opera and, as Musical Supervisor, was responsible for the production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Aspects of Love in London, Canada/US tour and Australia and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in London, Canada, Los Angeles, Australia and New York and the very successful Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber concert tour worldwide with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. Michael has orchestrated and arranged shows including Mr Cinders, Wonderful Town, Bitter Sweet and Ziegfeld. He composed the dance music for the film Victor/Victoria and created a new performing version of The Beggar's Opera. Michael has been guest conductor with the London Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic, the Halle, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the BBC Concert and Radio Orchestras and he is one of the principal conductors with the Royal Philharmonic Pops Orchestra. He conducted the RPO in the highly succesful series of Classical Spectacular concerts at the Royal Albert Hall and has recorded the music with them on a double album. Michael has been Musical Director and Supervisor for the BBC Television Laurence Olivier Awards in 1991/92, the Children's Royal Variety show in 1992/93 and the Royal Variety show in 1992. He was Musical Director of the Michael Ball show for Carlton Television this year. Michael has been involved with many show recordings including conducting Michael Crawford's album of the music of Andrew Loyd Webber and producing a new complete recording of Jesus Christ Superstar. As a composer, he has written music for many West End shows and is currently working on his musical about J M Barrie and the Lost Boys entitled The House on the Corner, written in collaberation with Warner Brown, which was originally workshopped at the Edinburgh Festival in 1990 to great critical acclaim.
