Paul Tomkinson

The Butler

Paul represented Great Britain as a junior gymnast, was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Ballet School and after three years’ training graduated into Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet Company. After a short period, he decided to plump for a career in unsubsidised theatre. He has a few West End shows under his belt (and 30-inch waist) one of them being Song and Dance. He performed in both the original production and the 1990 revival. In the revival, throughout the previews, he played the lead role whilst Wayne Sleep was off having a plaster-cast auctioned.

Television credits include The Hot Shoe Show and a commercial for soup, where he danced around a farmer’s field dressed as a scarecrow with a turnip head. Over Christmas and New Year (1990/91) at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield he suffered déjà vu when he achieved a lifetime ambition and played the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz. Here in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat he achieves yet another lifetime ambition, being a Charlton Heston ‘nut’: he is now in his own Bible Epic.
