26th April – Marathon Day
It was the most amazing experience of my life!!
Truly incredible. I arrived in Greenwich park early enough to drop off my bag onto the loading trucks which were waiting for everybody. I then checked that my “chip” (the chip registers your time from the starting point to the finish line) which was attached to my trainer was safe and secure and then finally found my way onto the line up.
The atmosphere was buzzing and slowly but surely we made our way forward to the starting line. The crowds were cheering, clapping and screaming all the way round the course.
I managed to run straight for 14 miles but then my hamstrings started to tighten and I needed to walk. From mile 17 right through to mile 22 I was running, walking, running, walking and that particular part of the course which went through Canary Wharf was the most hardest point for me, physically and mentally. I was stretching my legs out as much as possible at this point but all my muscles were dead weight by now.
When I reached mile 23 it was sheer determination that pushed me on. Mile 24, running through Embankment was something I will never forget, the crowds were calling my name, cheering me on and I could finally see the end in sight. I was determined to run the last 2 miles and when I turned the corner past Buckingham Palace onto Pall Mall, I was utterly overwhelmed. I can honestly say I would do it all again tomorrow.
I met up with my family and friends afterwards and I broke down when I saw my Dad. Everybody was so supportive and caring. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has donated to my website and supported me through this life changing experience. I would also like to thank Nicola, Susan and Sam at The Really Useful Company who have made these blogs possible all along. Thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart for all your hard work.
I am signing off now for the last time to rest and to recover from my very tired legs!!!!
So thank you again and watch this space for next year!!!!!
