Alan Ayckbourn

Background: Alan Ayckburn is the long-standing Artistic Director of the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, and the author of 50 plays, of which more than half have been produced in the West End. The plays have won numerous awards – including seven London Evening Standard Awards. They have been translated into over 30 languages and are performed on stage and television throughout the world. He was the 1992 Cameron Mackintosh Professor of Contemporary Theatre at St Catherine’s College, Oxford. The holder of several honorary degrees, other accolades include a Montblanc de la Culture Award for Europe, a Writer’s Guild of Great Britain Lifetime Achievement Award and, in 1987, a CBE.

Theatre: plays include Relatively Speaking, Absurd Person Singular, The Norman Conquests, Bedroom Farce, Just Between Ourselves, A Chorus of Disapproval, Woman in Mind, A Small Family Business, Man of the Moment, Communicating Doors, Mr A’s Amazing Maze Plays, Invisible Friends.
