The film
The Phantom of the Opera movie was released in December 2004. Directed by Joel Schumacher, the film starred 17-year-old Emmy Rossum as Christine, Gerard Butler as The Phantom, Patrick Wilson as Raoul and Minnie Driver as Carlotta.
The film, shot on location at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, UK, was nominated for 3 Oscars and gained a further 27 nominations as well as claiming 5 awards, including the 2005 Critics Choice 'Best Young Actress' Award for Emmy Rossum.
The movie also starred British actresses Miranda Richardson and Jennifer Ellison with Simon Callow - a well-known British actor who had previously played Count Fosco in Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit West End musical The Woman in White - playing the role of Andre alongside Ciarán Hinds as Firmin.
London's current phantom, Ramin Karimloo, also appeared in a cameo role in the film, playing Christine's father.
