Marti Webb is established as one of Britain’s most popular stars, with her leading roles in numerous West End musicals including Stop the World I Want To Get Off, Half A Sixpence, Oliver!, Godspell, The Card, The Good Companions, Evita, Cats, The Seven Deadly Sins for the English National Opera and, most recently, playing Mrs Meers in Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Shaftesbury Theatre.
She received critical acclaim for her performance of Tell Me On A Sunday written especially for her by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black as a television special; the first of three specials to be recorded for BBC Television. The album Tell Me On A Sunday reached number 1 in the charts and the single “Take That Look Off Your Face” reached number 2. She subsequently recreated her role as part of the West End smash Song and Dance. Together, these television and stage performances led to many accolades being bestowed on Marti including a nomination for the Laurence Olivier award for Best Leading Lady in a Musical, receipt of the Manchester Evening News Best Performance award and being voted Best Female Singer on Television by readers of the TV Times.
Other equally successful recordings include album releases such as Performance, Freudiana, Music & Songs From Evita, Gershwin and, most recently, Limelight and hit singles “Ben” (the royalties of which were donated to the Ben Hardwick fund) and “Always There”, the theme tune from the BBC series Howard’s Way to name but a few.
In addition to her performances and recording career, Marti’s continuous successes include her acclaimed performances as Hannah Van Husen in Divorce Me, Darling! at the Chichester Festival Theatre and her recent starring roles in the sell out national tours of The Goodbye Girl playing Paula, Miss Hannigan in Annie, Sue in Dinner With George and Anna in The King and I.
The Magic of the Musicals is a show in which Marti has starred in both the UK and overseas including Denmark and Canada collecting rave reviews. So popular is this show that a video was recorded and shown on BBC Television, together with an album, which proved to be immensely successful, and sales continue to thrive.
Her television credits include a Masterclass for Meridian Television, Music Live – a concert at the New Waterfront Hall in Belfast, Awash With Colour and Songs of Praise, all for BBC Television.
Marti is delighted and honoured to return to star in Tell Me On A Sunday.
