From musical theatre to plays, film, television, radio, concert and recording, Maria Friedman is one of Britain’s finest actresses, with an unprecedented three Olivier Awards and seven nominations for her work in musical theatre.

She won her first Olivier Award for her one-woman show Maria Friedman – by Special Arrangement at the Donmar and a second Olivier Award followed for her performance as Fosca in Passion. Her performances in Sunday in the Park with George and Lady in the Dark, both at the Royal National Theatre, earned her two more Olivier Award nominations.

Other work for the stage includes: Blues in the Night, April in Paris and the National Theatre’s production of Ghetto. Maria also starred in the West End as Roxie in Chicago, for which she gained another Olivier Award nomination, as Sukie in The Witches of Eastwick, Mother in Ragtime, (for which she won her third Oliver Award) and last September’s opening of The Woman in White, which won Maria a historic seventh Olivier nomination.

She has also appeared as the Narrator in the film video of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and has made numerous recordings.

Her sold-out 2003 New York cabaret debut at the Cafe Carlyle won her rave reviews and an invitation to return for a command performance.

Michael Ball most recently made his New York City Opera debut as Reginald Bunthorne in Patience.

Career highlights: originated the role of Alex in Aspects of Love both in the West End and on Broadway; Marius in Les Miserables (original cast) at the Palace Theatre in London; Raoul in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London; Giorgio in Stephen Sondheim’s Passion at the Queen’s Theatre, London; Joe in Sunset Boulevard opposite Petula Clark in BBC Radio 2’s live concert production recorded at Cork Opera House; Caractacus Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (original cast); Count Fosco in The Woman in White in London.

Recordings include: 11 Solo albums all achieving gold or platinum status; completed nine national and international concert tours; recipient of the Variety Club of Great Britain Most Promising Newcomer 1989, Recording artist of the year 1998,Theatergoers Club of Great Britain’s award for Most Popular Musical Actor over the last 21 years.

Angela Christian made her West End debut creating this role (TheatreGoers’ Choice Award). She is thrilled to return to Broadway at the Marquis Theatre, where she originated the role of Miss Dorothy Brown in Thoroughly Modern Millie (Outer Critics Circle Nomination).
